Aug 7, 2009 07:51 PM

Dogs are another one of nature's creations:another alluring cute animal to befriend and to love. So,it isn't so abnormal for you to start sketching your canine friend! Here are some tips to help get you started.

Drawing a Dog

  1. Start by just drawing a plain circle.
  2. Draw two smaller ovals overlapping the circle.
  3. Now, draw a long, thin oval under the circle, just overlapping it.
  4. Draw four smaller circles under the thin oval(You can sort of guess what dog it is now, right?).
  5. Give the circles and ovals definition, like the cheekbones, snout, etc.
  6. Make the rest of the details (the eyes,mouth,etc.).
  7. Shade the figure in.
  8. Add some cute expressions for a puppy. You might also try making them not as proportionate.

Tips

  • Equipment

    • Charcoal Pencils:great for shading.
    • Inks and Pens:if you want to make a statement abut your doggy masterpiece, try outlining it in ink pens or normal pens.Inked pens give a more classic look, but are messier. If you decide to try them, try using Indian Ink(it is super black).
    • Rubbing Surfaces:ideal for texture.
    • Wide Range Of Coloring Supplies:you need a lot of colors to express a mutt.
  • Working environment

    • Make sure it is a working studio,not a hang-out
    • Make sure it is clean.
    • Make sure it is relaxing and you can focus.

Things You'll Need
